The 12th annual Tribeca Film Festival, presented by American Express®, was bursting with movies, panels, special events and oh, did we mention movies? From April 17-28, we hosted nearly 400 screenings and panels with more than 95% attendance. Whew. Not bad for 12 days work.
A total of 89 features and 60 short films from over 30 countries were screened for more than 117,000 movie-goers and panel participants as part of TFF 2013’s mission to bring a diverse array of films and events to New York City.
In keeping with our goal of reaching as wide an audience as possible, the 4th annual Tribeca Online Festival returned with a free streaming selection of films and shorts like Farah Goes Bang and Lil Bub & Friendz. We also live-streamed several of our highlight events such as our Tribeca Talks® series with Ben Stiller/Jay Roach and Clint Eastwood/Darren Aronofsky and our awards ceremony. 2013 also marked the first #6SECFILMS Vine Competition for which a jury consisting of Adam Goldberg, Penny Marshall and the 5 Sec Films team determined 4 winners out of 400 entries to receive the vine-ly sum of $600 per winning entry.
Our beloved Tribeca Drive-In® series returned this year with the classic Hitchcock film, The Birds, followed by Tim Burton’s beloved comedy Beetlejuice and a screening of Lil Bub & Friendz, co-sponsored by AT&T and JetBlue, and hosted by Brookfield. More than 6,000 people came out for the free outdoor films, activities, trivia and the chance to bond with like-minded movie enthusiasts.
And children were even able to get in on a little of the TFF 2013 action. A crowd of 325,000 join us on Saturday, April 27, for our signature Tribeca Family Festival Street Fair and Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day. These events offered food stands, face painting, free screenings, live Broadway cast performances, and visits from New York sports teams.
Finally, the 2013 Festival closed with the 30th anniversary celebration of Martin Scorsese’s The King of Comedy, followed by a Q&A with Scorsese, Jerry Lewis and our own Robert De Niro.
Needless to say, we’re going to have a little trouble topping ourselves next year, but we’re more than ready for the challenge. So start counting the days now, and we’ll see you in 2014!
