His controversial personal life tends to overshadow that fact that Roman Polanski is one auteur that continues to make interesting and innovative features. In recognition of Polanski’s brilliance and in keeping with its tradition of stellar repertory programming, Tribeca Cinemas is offering cinephiles the chance to take in Polanski’s feature debut, Knife in the Water, which is rarely screened in the city.

Direct from the Janus Film Library, the film follows the plight of a rich couple who decide to bring a young hitchhiker on a sailing trip with disastrous results. Knife in the Water received an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Feature in 1962.

As an added bonus, Tribeca Cinemas will also be showing two rare Polanski shorts from 1957: Break Up The Dance and Teeth Smile. Tickets are only $12 and can be purchased through Eventbrite or at the door.
