Struck by Lightning—which received a standing ovation at its 2012 Tribeca Film Festival premiere—marks the screenwriting and film acting debut of Glee’s Chris Colfer and also features such standouts as Allison Janney (Juno, “The West Wing”), Dermot Mulroney (My Best Friend’s Wedding), Christina Hendricks (“Mad Men”) and Rebel Wilson (Pitch Perfect). Polly Bergen,  Sarah Hyland (Modern Family) and Angela Kinsey (The Office) round out the excellent ensemble cast.

This coming of age “dramedy,” thoughtfully directed by Brian Dannelly (Saved!), tells the story of Carson Phillips (Colfer), a high senior meant for bigger things than a close-minded town could ever offer. However, destiny intervenes when a bolt of lightning suddenly kills Carson as he stands in his school parking lot. Ruefully acknowledging that life is what happens while you’re busy planning your future, Carson recounts the events in the last few weeks of his life (which includes college deadlines, blackmail, family angst and more) via witty, insightful flashbacks that introduce all of the people whose lives he unexpectedly touched and whose memories will keep him alive.
